Q1. Does IDEAL PLAY help children with ADD and ADHD?
We have seen ADHD children settle down and complete their tasks at hand, in six to eight weeks on the programme. The concentration, regardless of a child's individual learning style, is enhanced.

Q2. How soon before you will notice the difference in your child?
It is imperative that the child is committed to complete at least the first 6 levels covering the four basic operations. We have seen remarkable improvements in children from 6 weeks to 6 months on the programme, depending on both the amount of practice and commitment by parent and child.

Q3. How much homework do they have to do?
Any skill requires practice. The minimum undertaking by parents is that the children do abacus work for at least 15 minutes a day. The more they work with the abacus the quicker the visual forms on the right brain.

Q4. What is the difference between Kumon and Ideal Play?
Ideal Play Abacus is a brain development program whereas Kumon is a mathematics programme. IPA teaches lateral thinking and creative application through right brain and left brain stimulation. Kumon focuses on improving mathematics through repetition and rote learning.

Q5. Will the abacus confuse children at school? Does it interfere with curriculum mathematics?
No. IPA teaches the four basic operations of mathematics only i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Children use numbers merely as the tool to develop confidence, concentration, creativity and listening skills. These skills greatly facilitate all learning areas in school. The fact that they develop an almost magical ability to calculate is simply a bonus of the programme.
